Geography with the map of North Korea
The country is located in East Asia, in an area known as the Korean Peninsula. It holds about 55% of it. The country covers an area of 120,538 km². It borders Russia, China, and South Korea. Regarding its sea access, it opens onto the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea.
The largest city is the capital, Pyongyang, which can easily be spotted on the map of North Korea. Other major cities you can find on the map include Chongjin, Wonsan, Nampo, Kaesong, and Hamhung.
Mount Paekdu is the highest point in the country. It is located on the border with China, in the northeastern part of the country. Its altitude is 2,744 meters.
Regarding rivers, there is the Amnok River (see the map of North Korea). It is 790 km long. There is also the Tumen River, which is slightly shorter at 521 km. It has a special feature: it is the only river that flows into the Sea of Japan.
These two rivers serve as a natural border with neighboring China for most of their course.
Climate in the country
Regarding the climate, the most comfortable months are from April to June, as well as September and October. In July and August it is hot and very humid, which is the monsoon season. The period from November to March brings a cold climate.
Tourism in North Korea
Tourism in the country is highly controlled by the state. You are not allowed to visit the country alone. You must stay in a group with a guide. While traveling, you must follow everything your guide tells you.
Indeed, you must be careful about permitted behavior, as something ordinary could be forbidden in the country. For example, you are not allowed to take photos of airports, train stations, bridges, or even roads. You are also not allowed to have a mobile phone.
