In this article you’ll find a map of England. It is a constituent country of the United Kingdom, located on the largest part of the island of Great Britain and therefore of the United Kingdom itself. England lies in the southern and central part of the island; it is bordered by Wales to the west and Scotland to the north.

Historically speaking, the country was unified as a monarchy during the 10th century. Later, England fought to take control of the whole island, and it even extended its influence across the British Isles and over a vast part of the world.
For a time, the country became one of the greatest empires in the world. Its capital and main city is London, which is world-renowned for its dynamism. It is also the capital and the seat of the Commonwealth of Nations.
Geography with the map of England
As you can see on the map of England, the country has a roughly triangular shape, whose apex is marked by the mouth of the River Tweed, on the border with Scotland. The eastern side is bordered by the North Sea, and the western side by the Irish Sea, Wales, and the Atlantic Ocean.
The base of the triangle, so to speak, faces the English Channel and the Pas-de-Calais department in France. England’s area covers 130,279 km², i.e., about 57% of Great Britain’s area and around 54% of that of the United Kingdom.
This area mentioned above also includes several islands. To begin with, there are the Isles of Scilly, located southwest of Land’s End. You can also find the Isle of Wight, which lies off England’s south coast, and finally a well-known island, the Isle of Man, located in the Irish Sea between England and Northern Ireland, both of which are part of the United Kingdom.
England’s coastline is mainly indented by bays and estuaries formed by various rivers. The Thames is the best-known, but the Wash and the Humber are also found on the east coast. In the west, you find the Bristol Channel, as well as the Mersey and the Solway.
These are natural harbors with strategic locations. This particular relief feature was important for the country’s economic development. Another notable point is that no place in England is more than 150 km from the sea.
The country’s relief is therefore very varied, as mentioned above. The most mountainous region is located in the north of England. The Cheviot Hills define the border with the neighboring country of Scotland. Immediately to the south and southwest are the Pennines and the Cumbrian Mountains, where you find the country’s highest point, Scafell Pike (978 m), which can be seen on the map of England.
Climate
England’s climate is often described as rainy—let’s see what that really means. The country has a mild climate, notably due to its latitude (the same as Newfoundland in Canada). It is also moderated by the surrounding seas and by the warm Gulf Stream current. As a result, extreme temperatures are relatively rare.
For example, summer averages are around 16°C, and about 4°C in January at the coldest point of winter. However, fog is very common, and the sky is often overcast, especially around the Pennines and in inland regions.
As for the country’s famous rainfall, it is heavier in October. Annual precipitation can reach around 760 mm across much of the country, and it’s also worth noting that England’s west coast is wetter than the east.
